Campaign 2010
Biblical Guidelines for Candidates
Michael Farris
was Chief Attorney for Concerned Women for America and is an
ordained Baptist minister. In his message to Pastors during
the Concerned Women for America of Southeast Texas
Conference on Religious Liberty, Michael gave this outline
from Deuteronomy 17:15-20.
1. Pick God’s
man. (v.15a) Not all people elected are God’s choice. (Hosea
8:2-4)
2. Pick a
Christian brother. (v.15b)
3. Pick someone
not in office simply to acquire power (horses). (v.16a)
4. Pick a
candidate who does not use dirty tactics or techniques of
the world to be elected. (v. 16b)
5. Pick a man
who is a faithful husband to one wife. (v. 17)
6. Pick a man
who does not or will not use public office to gain wealth.
(v. 17b)
7. Pick a
candidate who will not just give lip service to faith but
will read and understand God’s Word. (v. 19)
8. Pick a man
who does not consider himself better than others or have a
compromising spirit in regard to God’s Word. (v. 20)
"Although many
of us pretend otherwise, the living God cannot be moderately
important—if He exists, He is everything. If He's not what
your whole life is about—if you have relegated Him to some
corner of your week—then you have made Him out to be
something less than God, and something impossible for a
reasonable person to believe in." — John Hudlow
